I honestly think that I am solar powered in some way. Lately it’s been raining a lot, so there hasn’t been a lot of sunshine. The lack of sunshine makes me really lazy and sleepy. Even lazier and sleepier than normal, if that’s even possible. When it’s raining and pouring, I become an old man snoring.
Speaking of old men, this weekend I participated in a research study that studies how brain networks differed between young and old adults. Ironically I was part of the young cohort.
Brain function really fascinates me, so I asked the person doing the study all sorts of questions. I learned a lot of random stuff. Apparently the brain contains these sort of empty areas in the brain called ventricles, and large ventricles correlate with increased risk of schizophrenia. Apparently those who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease also have larger ventricles and larger space between the brain and the skull, because the brain sort of atrophies and shrinks from the disease.
Anyways, the main reason I joined the study was for the MRI brain scan. I’ve always wondered what my brain looks like. Sometimes I feel like it’s an empty mass of cobwebs. I have no idea how to read the picture they sent me, I’m thinking it’s actually upside down, but I see no cobwebs up there, and from what I can tell, the ventricles aren’t abnormally big. I guess that’s a good sign.
